Description
A commercial building certificate is a document that verifies a building's compliance with building codes and laws, and that it's ready for occupancy. There are several types of certificates that can be issued for a commercial building, including: Completion certificate (CC) A legal document issued by the local municipal authority that verifies the building was constructed according to the approved plan. Certificate of occupancy (OC) A document issued by a local government agency that verifies the building is suitable for occupancy. Substantial completion certificate A certificate that indicates the date when a designated portion of the trade contractor's work is substantially complete. The requirements for obtaining a certificate of occupancy vary by jurisdiction and the type of building. Local authorities can impose penalties on property owners or developers who don't comply with the requirements. In extreme cases, they may order the building to be evacuated.
